History
The history lead at St. Paul’s is Mrs. J. Harrold
At. St. Paul’s, we believe it is important to instil a love of history in our children by creating an interest in, and a curiosity about, the past. Our history curriculum enables children to develop a knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and the relationships between different groups as well as developing an understanding of their own identity.
To be good learners in history, our children set an example in
- Speech by learning the importance of respectful, kind and thoughtful communication through whole-class, small group or paired discussions. Pupils are encouraged to express their point of view clearly and respectfully while actively listening to others.
- Conduct by treating historical artefacts with respect both in school and when on educational visits. By working together co-operatively when using timelines, historical photographs and books. By listening respectfully to different ideas and interpretations of the past and by taking the time to record their own thoughts carefully.
- Love by demonstrating empathy with historical characters and understanding why people acted as they did. By responding with sensitivity and kindness when finding out about different historical events and by recognising that people in the past had very different lives from their own.
- Faith by developing a respect and understanding of different people at different times in history and having an openness towards different beliefs and values.
