Science
The Science Lead at St. Paul’s is Mrs. C. Hollinghurst.
At St. Paul’s, we recognise that Science plays a vital role in children’s development by encouraging curiosity, fostering a sense of wonder and helping them understand the world around them. Through practical investigations, discussions and exploration, Science provides children with the opportunity to ask questions, test ideas, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
We recognise that not all children learn in the same way, and we are keen to develop children’s talents in all areas, not just the core subjects. At St. Paul’s, we celebrate children’s work in science and believe that to be a good learner in science, our children set an example in:
- Speech – by speaking appropriately during class discussions, investigations, and group work. Pupils ask thoughtful questions, explain their reasoning, and listen respectfully to others’ ideas. Children communicate clearly, using scientific vocabulary accurately and confidently.
- Conduct – by using scientific equipment safely and correctly, taking care during experiments and investigations. Children are taught to work systematically and responsibly, focusing on the task and engaging actively in observing, predicting, measuring, and recording results. Children take pride in their scientific work and are encouraged to be reflective and accurate.
- Love – by evaluating their work and that of others with respect and integrity. Our children understand that Science is about discovery and learning, even when things to do not work out as we thought they would. We promote resilience and critical thinking, encouraging children to be open-minded, persistent, and willing to try different methods and improve their work.
At St. Paul’s, we want all children to develop into well-rounded individuals, and we believe that through our vision we can ensure that our children leave our school equipped with the best possible future.
