The Art lead at St. Paul’s is Miss R. Baines.

At St. Paul’s we recognise that art plays a vital role in children’s development in allowing them autonomy over their creative minds and gives them an outlet to express themselves. We recognise that not all children learn in the same way as others and we are keen to develop children’s talents in all areas not just the core subjects. We celebrate their work and encourage children to evaluate both their own work and the work of others in a kind and considerate way.

To be good learners in Art our children set an example in:

  • Speech by ensuring we speak appropriately to each other through all our class discussions and when discussing the ideas of art work of famous artists and of others. We ensure that when we are communicating together we are speaking with an appropriate tone and respecting each other’s opinions. We discuss different media and understand that our friends may prefer to use other media than others.

  • Conduct by ensuring they use equipment safely and suitably. We ensure that we actively engage in the process, seek knowledge and improvement through practice and observation. By ensuring that we focus on our own work and not the work of others. We take our time with our work and ensure we do not rush to showcase the best of our abilities. We demonstrate creativity, perseverance and aim to use keen observational skills allowing us to see details and translate the details into our own work.

  • Love by ensuring we evaluate our work and the work of others with respect and we appreciate the work of each other and artists which we look at. We take pride in our work and we do not compare our artwork to others and respect each other’s ideas and opinions. We show discipline in our work and are willing to commit to consistent practice and development even if we do not enjoy the task as much as others we have completed. We are willing to try new techniques and persevere through making mistakes along the way as a way to improve in the future.

At St. Paul’s we want all children in school to develop into well rounded adults and we believe that through our vision linking to all we do, in every subject we can ensure that our children leave our school with the best possible future.
