Year 1 - Bill

Zoom Lessons

Your child will be invited to take part in a Zoom online lesson each week with their class teacher and the rest of their class. You will receive an invitation to this lesson via email the day before the lesson and a reminder via text 1 hour before the lesson is due to take place. Below is a link to the Online Safety section of the school website where you will be able to access a helpful how to guide and a video to help you access zoom. This link will also take you to our Zoom Acceptable Use Agreement, Remote Learning Policy and a copy of the consent form that you will be sent via a survey.

Home Learning 

Whilst we are not at school work will be posted each Monday morning. If you have any questions regarding the tasks set, please email your child's class teacher using the following email year1@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk  Teachers will endeavour to reply to every parent as soon as possible. These are unprecedented times so please continue to be patient if we are unable to respond immediately to any questions about home learning activities set.  It is very important that you contact your class teacher at least once a week by Thursday morning to let them know you are OK and how your child is coping with the work set.

Summer Reading Challenge 2020

Although library buildings are closed, libraries will deliver the Challenge through virtual services and e-lending platforms.

Maths

We are continuing to follow the daily White Rose Maths home learning lessons with this week focusing on time. The activity sheets for the week’s lessons are in the document below. Please continue to complete one lesson a day and remember that you do not need to print out the activities you can just write your answers in your exercise book.

Literacy

In this week’s literacy work we will be learning all about robots. We will be exploring robots and writing a story about them.

 

Spelling:

This week review the Year One Common Exception words using the PowerPoint below and practise reading and spelling them; see if you can write them in a sentence, write and hide them around the house making your own scavenger hunt, write them in chalk on the pavement or paint them to label a picture.

Phonics

This week we will continue using Espresso for our phonics learning when looking at alternative spellings of different sounds. Follow the link below to Espresso and use the login from your child’s home learning pack (Please email if you need a reminder of this). Look at a video each day from Scully’s path starting with y and then look at one each day ending with ey on Friday. Click on the path to watch the video and then complete an activity from the choices on the menu on right hand side of the page.

Grammar:

This week we will recap the spelling rules for adding the suffix –ing to verbs. Have a look at the PowerPoint and the activity sheet below:

Topic: Animals around the World - Asia

This week we will continue our Animals around the World topic with Asia. Below you will find a PowerPoint to help you learn about the continent of Asia, an Asian animals PowerPoint and an Asian animal word search. When you have learnt some more facts about Asian animals choose of these animals and write your own animal fact file to share these facts with a friend.

RE:

Read the story ‘Jesus feeds the 5000’ then discuss these questions with a grown up at home:

I wonder what the most important part of this story is?

I wonder what it would have felt like to have been there?

I wonder what would have happened if there had been nobody with a picnic to share?

I wonder what happened to the little boy?

 

Following your discussing there is a mindfulness colouring sheet here to colour while you take time to reflect on the story and the words from the bible.

This week we are going to continue our computer programming lessons using Espresso Coding. Now select Unit 1B ‘Simple Inputs’ and over the course of this week try to complete lessons 3 and 4. Make sure you follow all the steps within each lesson.

Here you also have a word search and a handwriting practise sheet, both of which contain this week’s spellings. Practise these each day and then have a test on Friday. Please email me with your test score when you have completed it so that I can see how well you have done.

Welcome back! We are looking forward to another fun filled half term in Year One. Please see the documents below to see what we will be learning over the course of the year and make sure that you pay the page a visit regularly for updates about what we have been up to. 

 

Reminders

  • PE is on Monday this half term. Your child's PE kit should remain in school throughout the half term. We will be going to forest school on Friday afternoons, please ensure your child has their wellies in school. 
  • Help your child practice sentence writing at home using cursive lettering and taking care to present their work neatly.
  • Please read with your every night in order to ensure your child progresses in their reading and encourage them to sound out each word. Discuss the text with your child and ask them questions. Here are some ideas:
