Home Learning 

Whilst we are not at school work will be posted each Monday morning. If you have any questions regarding the tasks set, please email your child's class teacher using the following email year1@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk  Teachers will endeavour to reply to every parent as soon as possible. These are unprecedented times so please continue to be patient if we are unable to respond immediately to any questions about home learning activities set.  It is very important that you contact your class teacher at least once a week by Thursday morning to let them know you are OK and how your child is coping with the work set.

Summer Reading Challenge 2020

Although library buildings are closed, libraries will deliver the Challenge through virtual services and e-lending platforms.

In order to complete the Reading Challenge, you must read six books. Remember to share your certificate with your class teacher to receive a prize.

Maths

We are continuing to follow the daily White Rose Maths home learning lessons with this week focusing on measuring mass and beginning to look at capacity. The activity sheets for the week’s lessons are in the document below. Please continue to complete one lesson a day and remember that you do not need to print out the activities you can just write your answers in your exercise book.

 

Literacy

This week’s learning theme is ‘Under the Sea’. It includes looking at some lovely poems and songs each day before exploring the different animals that live under the sea. Over the course of the week your child will work towards writing their own ‘Under the Sea’ poems and songs.

 

Spelling:

Starting this week, we are going move away from practising our common exception words and begin having a set weekly spelling test. Below you will find a PowerPoint to remind you of words that use the ph and wh diagraphs in their spelling, a word search and a handwriting practise sheet, all of which contain this week’s spellings. Practise these each day and then have a test on Friday. Please email me with your test score when you have completed it so that I can see how well you have done.

Phonics

This week we will begin using Espresso for our phonics learning when looking at alternative spellings of different sounds. Follow the link below to Espresso and use the login from your child’s home learning pack (Please email if you need a reminder of this). Look at a new video each day starting at the top of Sally’s path with ch then move onto j, m, n, r. Click on the path to watch the video and then complete an activity from the choices in the menu on right hand side of the page.

Grammar:

Here are two sets of activities that you can complete over the course of the week to help you practise punctuating sentences correctly:

Have a go at fixing these sentences. Remember to think about both the spelling and punctuation.

 

Do these sentences need a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark?

Topic/Science: Under the Sea

This week we are going to learn about creatures that live under the sea to join together with our Literacy work. The activities below include; fact cards about sea creatures, comprehension questions, a read and colour activity, a booklet about the five oceans of the world and a labelling activity.

 

RE:

This week I would like you to think about promises. Discuss these questions with a grown up at home:

  • What is a promise?
  • Where is it kept?
  • How is it kept?

After you have discussed these questions write your own promise or draw a picture of a promise you would like to make.

Music:

PSHE:

This week have a discussion at home to answer the question ‘should we always believe what we hear in the news?' Use the prompt below for some ideas and more questions. Maybe you could have a go at writing your own news article.

 

Art/DT:

Keeping to our under the sea theme have a go at one of the crafts in this photo. You could make a paper plate jelly fish or use recycled materials to make your own fish tank. Don’t forget to send me a photo of your creation.

This week’s learning is all about animals. It begins with a reading poems from ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ by Giles Abdreae and moves onto looking at ‘The Ugly Five’ by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler. I know that you have all enjoyed reading books by Julia Donaldson in school so I am sure you will enjoy this new one just as much.

Topic/Science: Recycling

Welcome back! We are looking forward to another fun filled half term in Year One. Please see the documents below to see what we will be learning over the course of the year and make sure that you pay the page a visit regularly for updates about what we have been up to. 

 

Reminders

  • PE is on Monday this half term. Your child's PE kit should remain in school throughout the half term. We will be going to forest school on Friday afternoons, please ensure your child has their wellies in school. 
  • Help your child practice sentence writing at home using cursive lettering and taking care to present their work neatly.
  • Please read with your every night in order to ensure your child progresses in their reading and encourage them to sound out each word. Discuss the text with your child and ask them questions. Here are some ideas:
