https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZlL77ZfXkI

  • Explore the properties of a range of natural and manmade objects including observing any similarities and differences between the two groups.
  • Describe the textures and appearance of the different items.
  • Explore the texture and various properties by using them to print with paint.
  • Display the artwork represent materials and their properties.

Activity

Make a repeating patterns (manmade, natural, manmade, natural, etc.) and designs on the paper by printing paint using some objects from the manmade group and some from the natural group. As they do so, encourage them to talk about the different effects the objects make with the paint. Ask them if they notice any difference in printing between manmade and natural objects. Allow them to be free with their designs but if you need the paintings to be small, the chn will need to use small objects to print (the end of a twig, a tiny piece of sponge, a screw, etc.)

Topic work

History

This week you will show what you know and understand about the past through artwork

Create two different sketches of a modern day seaside and a Victorian seaside. Remember to include the different features you have found out about over the last few weeks.

Challenge:  Label the different features to show the differences in both your sketches.

Science

This week in science we will discuss waterproof materials and their uses.

Write 'Waterproof materials' on your paper. Explain that, if a material does not absorb water, it is said to be waterproof.

Explain that you like to read books in the park but worry that they can get wet in the rain. Ask them if they could make a cover for your book. Give them time to explore making paper waterproof with wax crayons.  The Nikwax weblink gives instructions about how to make a waterproof book cover.

http://www.nikwax.com/usblog/make-a-waterproof-brown-paper-bag-book-cover-with-nikwax/

Challenge your child to tell you as many uses of waterproof material as they can think of in 2 mins (raincoat, walking boots, cloth beach bags, phone cases, etc.). Challenge them by asking them to describe a material as permeable (it lets liquids through) or as impermeable (it doesn’t let liquids through)!

Play odd one out: show four materials, e.g. wood, water, brick and slate. The children gain a point for every material they suggest is the odd one out as long as it relates to the properties of the materials, e.g. The odd one out is water because it is transparent or the odd one out is slate because it is waterproof.

This week in RE, I would like you to come up with a creative prayer for our school garden. Be as creative as you can and decorate your prayer. Share your finished prayer with Miss Patel.
