Week commencing 1st June – Home learning activities

Please find below the activities to be completed this week.

Please photograph/comment on each activity completed and how your child has done with them and email me at year5@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk.

Feel free to email as often as you like but please make sure it is at least once a week.

Daily activities:

  • Read your home reading book, a book for pleasure or a new book online.
  • Literacy
  • Spelling
  • Maths
  • PE and some Topic or RE work.

Literacy

This week’s Literacy unit is all about ‘Hygiene, Health and Heroes’

Please open the document below where you will find a lesson for each day. Please feel free to email me the final task completed on Day 5, I would love to see them.

You will find some sound and sight writing prompts in the newest home learning pack, please complete pictures 3 and 4. Again, I would love to see the finish product!

Spelling

I would like you to continue using the spelling mats sent out in the home learning pack. Choose 5 spellings to focus on this week. Practice simply spelling the work using the look, cover, write and check method then work up to using the word correctly in a sentence.

Maths

This week I would like you to complete pages 5 and 6 (adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators) of the Headstart booklet in your home learning packs.

You can also continue with the White Rose daily lessons (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/). The worksheets are no longer available on the website but you can find them below with the other documents required for home learning this week.

Science

This weeks Science is all about forces and materials. I would like you to use the document below to design a new piece of equipment for the playground. The equipment must use at least one of the ideas shown in the document, it must be weatherproof and need no electricity. When you have completed your task email them to the class email. All completed designs will be shown to Mrs Smith and there will be a prize for the piece of equipment which fits the criteria and is the most creative. These must be emailed by 11am on Thursday to be entered into the draw. Good luck!

PSHE

This week I would like you to think about your aspirations and goals. What job would you like to do when you are older? What skills and qualities do you have? Please find  document to complete below all about ‘Why people do different jobs’.

ICT

This week I have attached a document (see below) all about forces. Your task is to design a new piece of equipment for a school playground, which includes at least one of the simple machines shown, it weatherproof and does not need electricity. Any completed designs will be shown to Mrs Smith and may even end up being added to the school newsletter for all to see!

Read the documents below to find out more about our learning journey each half term.

During the Spring term, PE sessions will be on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit (with each item labelled and in a bag) in school with them every day. PE kits should only be taken home at the end of each half term. In addition to their PE kits, Year 5 children will also require a swimming kit (shorts/costume and towel). These will be required every Tuesday.

Please ensure your child brings their reading book and diary to school each day.

Thank you for your continued support! smiley
