Week commencing 13th July – Home learning activities

Please find below the activities to be completed this week.

Please photograph/comment on each activity completed and how your child has done with them and email me at year5@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk.

Feel free to email as often as you like but please make sure it is at least once a week.

Daily activities:

  • Read your home reading book, a book for pleasure or a new book online.
  • Literacy
  • Spelling
  • Maths
  • PE and some Topic or RE work.

Literacy

This week I would like you to write a summary of your time in Year 5. What have you enjoyed? What have you achieved? Think about all the things you’ve taken part in and all the new skills you have developed.

Try to include:

  • Your fondest memory in year 5
  • The subject you enjoyed the most and why
  • One personal thing you have achieved (this may be learning to swim or gaining more confidence after performing our sign language song)
  • What you are looking forward to as you move into year 6

I would love to read these so please make sure you send them to me (year5@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk)

Spelling

I would like you to continue using the spelling mats sent out in the home learning pack. Choose 5 spellings to focus on this week. Practice simply spelling the work using the look, cover, write and check method then work up to using the word correctly in a sentence.

Maths

This week I would like you to continue using the Classroom Secrets home learning packs. Try to complete a minimum of 1 numeracy task each day.

Science

This week I would like you to attempt the mini experiment found at the link below.

Have you ever seen pictures or videos of a roof being blown off a house during a hurricane or tornado? You might be surprised to hear that the roof is actually not pushed off by the strong winds but instead by the air inside the house! This can be explained by Bernoulli's principle, which states that fast-moving fluids or air, such as strong winds, have lower pressure than slow-moving air. In this activity you will demonstrate how balloons can be moved in a similar way. It is not quite as impressive as blowing the roof of a house, but still pretty magical! - https://www.sciencebuddies.org/stem-activities/bernoulli#summary - you will need to click on the tabs on the page to find out what materials you will need along with instructions on how to complete the experiment.

PSHE

This week I would like you to look at the document found below, which is all about whether you think holidays are important and why. There are a number of activities to complete on the attached document about your routines and why they are important to you. Enjoy!

ICT

I would like you to begin completing the Espresso Coding tasks found at the link below.

Click on the document below to see what we will be learning about throughout the year.

Read the documents below to find out more about our learning journey each half term.

During the Spring term, PE sessions will be on a Friday afternoon. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit (with each item labelled and in a bag) in school with them every day. PE kits should only be taken home at the end of each half term. In addition to their PE kits, Year 5 children will also require a swimming kit (shorts/costume and towel). These will be required every Tuesday.

Please ensure your child brings their reading book and diary to school each day.

Thank you for your continued support! smiley
