Zoom Lessons

Your child will be invited to take part in a Zoom online lesson each week with their class teacher and the rest of their class. You will receive an invitation to this lesson via email the day before the lesson and a reminder via text 1 hour before the lesson is due to take place. Below is a link to the Online Safety section of the school website where you will be able to access a helpful how to guide and a video to help you access zoom. This link will also take you to our Zoom Acceptable Use Agreement, Remote Learning Policy and a copy of the consent form that you will be sent via a survey.

Take a look at our Facebook page for a message from all staff at St Paul's. We miss you all very much and look forward to seeing you all as soon as possible. Take care and keep smiling :)

Home Learning

Whilst we are not at school work will be posted each Monday morning. If you have any questions regarding the tasks set, please email myself using the following email year3@st-pauls.lancs.sch.uk. I will endeavour to reply to every parent as soon as possible. These are unprecedented times so please continue to be patient if I am unable to respond immediately to any questions about home learning activities set.  It is very important that you contact myself at least once a week by Thursday morning to let me know you are OK and how your child is coping with the work I have set.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support.

Week Commencing 27th April 2020 Home Learning

Literacy & GPS

This week is all about eggs. Eggs–plore(!) stories, rhymes and recipes, and get egg-cited to make and review some egg-based food – linked to writing, of course!

Some of the lessons this week provide the opportunity to follow a recipe and make some delicious food! Each of these tasks MUST have adult supervision.

Lesson 1 - Listen to, and enjoy, this story together: Dr Seuss Green Eggs and Ham https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KRkR8HaR9c

Discuss what happened and what you liked about the story together. Can you spot any rhyming words and write them down?

Write sentences using some of the rhyming words found in the story. Use the sentences heard to help, e.g. I do not like a house or a mouse. I would not like green eggs and ham in a box or with a fox.

You could create your own Green Eggs and Ham storybook using the rhyming words and sentences written. Add your own illustrations too! Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together.

Lesson 2 - Watch this song about eggs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyKOsBmYSt8

Discuss together which type of eggs you like to eat?

Write a few sentences about each type of egg and say why you like/don’t like them, e.g.

I adore scrambled eggs because…

I don’t like fried eggs because…

I love boiled eggs because ...

I’m not keen on poached eggs because…

Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together.

Now watch this clip of Matilda making pancakes:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0ab3213sYY

Write sentences around what you like to eat on your pancakes e.g. syrup, lemon, sugar, orange etc.

Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together.

Lesson 3 - Listen to, and enjoy this story together: The Goose that laid the Golden Eggs:

 https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/english-ks1--ks2-aesops-fables-the-goose-that-laid-the-golden-eggs/zf94382

Can you spot this vocabulary in the story after reading? You could find and highlight these words

with a highlighter pen or write them down.

–acorns

–bale

–prosperous

–possessions

–glorious

–horror

–plenty

Now look for any other examples of new/ interesting vocabulary and highlight/ write these down.

Review the story using the vocabulary explored. Can you say what each word means in relation to the

story? Read the sentence the word is in. Discuss the meaning of the word in the sentence.

Write a sentence for some of the new words you have found using the context of the story.

Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together.

Lesson 4 - Explore this website together. Find new information and you could create a fact file for your family.

https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/food-facts

Design your own recipe using eggs, with ingredients you have at home.

Write your new recipe.

Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together.

Lesson 5 - Watch and enjoy how giant chocolate eggs are made:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_FlGH1hv8Y

Now make a list of all the chocolate eggs you have eaten or know about. Which is your favourite?

Say why and write reasons, e.g.

My favourite chocolate egg is… because…

Another egg I like is… because…

My least favourite chocolate egg is… because…

Create your own chocolate egg for a family member/ friend e.g. parent, grandparent, sister/brother

Write a description about your new egg with interesting words to appeal to your audience.

You could also write an advert/ poster, or film your own advert for TV to persuade people to buy your egg!

Check each sentence for spelling and punctuation together in any writing completed.

Welcome to Year 3

In September 2019:

Class Teacher: Miss Aulton

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Egan

Welcome back to the start of a new half-term.  In Spring 2 we will be looking at the topic 'The Iron Man'. We will be looking at different types of forces and magnets.

Gentle reminders

  • P.E. will be on a Thursday afternoon; your child's P.E. kit should remain in school throughout the half term and I will ensure it is sent home at the end of each half term for for it to be washed.
  • We are lucky enough to have Mr Curloss each Wednesday afternoon for our Music lessons so if your child has taken home their Cornet, please can you ensure it is sent into school with them every Wednesday.
  • Please try and listen to your child read every night in order to ensure progression with their reading, writing and speaking & listening skills.
  • Please practice the times tables with your child - start with the x3, 4, 8 :). Hit the Button on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button is great as it is free to use and easily accessible from mobile phones, tablets, laptops or iPads.
  • Homework is sent home each Friday and is due back in school each Wednesday. Children will need to complete their homework in school at their own time if it is not returned. Please may I ask for your support with presentation of homework books. Consistency helps the children to present their work well in class.
  • Children will be tested on their spellings and times tables every Friday.

IMPORTANT dates for your diary:

Click on the 'Curriculum map' documents for more detail about what we are learning this year.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's learning, please don't hesitate to come and see me smiley
